Itinerary
Day 1 -
Hobart to Strahan
First we travel to Mount Field National Park, where we stretch
our legs on the Russell Falls and Tall Trees walks. We continue
on to Lake St Clair for a view of Australia's deepest lake.
On our way to Strahan we hike and explore the Franklin Gordon
National Park. We spend tonight in our own exclusive accommodation
in the historic coastal township of Strahan where your guide
will fill you in on the amazing history of 'pining, mining
and convicts'!. (LD)
Day 2 -
Strahan to Cradle Mountain Region
This morning we enjoy the intriguing history of Strahan with
options to suit everyone! Take a stroll or a bike ride (free)
along the foreshore or up the Water Tower Hill for a priceless
lookout over Macquarie Harbour and Ocean Beach; walk through
a rainforest to Hogarth Falls (if you're quiet and lucky you
may even spot a platypus); Later, we take a walk through the
Henty Sand Dunes, where you can even take a quad bike tour
(at own expense). In the afternoon we visit the 'Silver City'
of Zeehan, here you may wish to arrange with your guide to
canoe in a nearby lake (at no extra cost). We then continue
to our overnight lodge accommodation. (BLD)
Day 3 -
Cradle Mountain to Devonport
Today we discover the World Heritage Cradle Mountain National
Park. Enjoy the pure air with a guided walk around lovely
Dove Lake, or challenge yourself with a more strenuous hike
(unguided) to view Cradle Mountain. We spend this afternoon
exploring more of the state's mid north before our arrival
in Devonport. (BL)
Day 4 -
Devonport to Bicheno
Travelling northeast of Launceston, we stop at the sweetly
fragranced, rolling purple hills of the Bridestowe Estate
Lavender Farm (seasonal). Continuing through the changing
landscape of heritage farms, rainforest and mining towns we
spend the afternoon at the breathtaking Bay of Fires. Here
you can take a stroll along the gleaming white sands or a
swim in the clear turquoise water (weather permitting). Tonight
we stay at in the seaside township of Bicheno. After dinner,
you can choose to take a tour to see little penguins nesting
(at own expense). (LD)
Day 5 -
Bicheno to Pt Arthur
This morning we drive into the stunning Freycinet National
Park for sweeping views over Wineglass Bay. You may choose
to hike to Wineglass Beach via the lookout or for those more
adventurous; a hike to the top of Mount Amos. Travelling south
to Port Arthur we enjoy the stunning views of the Tasman Peninsula
along the way. Tonight we stay at Pt Arthur. While there,
take a spine chilling Port Arthur Ghost Tour for a glimpse
into the historic past of this penal colony (at own expense).
(BLD)
Day 6 -
Port Arthur to Hobart
We'll spend this morning exploring the infamous Port Arthur
Historic Site and take a boat cruise around the harbour. Next,
we visit Remarkable Cave and a range of other sites on the
Tasman Peninsula as we travel on to Hobart. Accommodation
is included, dinner at own expense. (BL)
Day 7 -
Hobart to Launceston
We travel north along the historic Midland Highway, passing
numerous colonial inns and quaint villages including Bagdad,
Oatlands and Campbelltown. We make a stop in Ross, where you'll
see Australia's oldest convict built bridge and have the opportunity
to purchase breakfast (own expense). We'll also see the infamous
Ross Bakery which is legendary in Japan and those in the 'know'
will be in search of Kiki the witch! Arrival into Launceston
